Dr. Metzler's clinical practice consists of evaluation and conservative management of all musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. He has a special interest in evaluating and treating chronic pain through a holisitic lens. He is the director of the Neuroplastic Pain Treatment Program at the WashU Medicine Living Well Center, providing patients with a unique treatment approach to chronic pain.

Research Interests

The role of epidural cortisone and its effects on patient's injections in the management of lumbar disc disease and rotator cuff tears.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Metzler's clinical practice consists of evaluation and conservative management of all musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. He has special interests in foot/ankle, hip/knee, sports-related injuries to the shoulder, foot, and ankle, and the use of electromyography to assess muscle and nerve responses. Dr. Metzler is also a member of the Living Well Center, which is a program that provides patients with a unique treatment approach to help them meet their health and wellness goals.

Background

Dr. Metzler received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He is currently an Assistant Professor for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Department of Orthopedics at Washington University Medical School. He is a member of several national societies including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is the Co-founder and Director of the Musculoskeletal Sports Medicine Fellowship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the university and involved in medical student and resident education. Dr. Metzler has authored peer-reviewed articles, review articles, and book chapters on topics related to the musculoskeletal rehabilitation. His clinical interests include the conservative management of all musculoskeletal conditions with a special interest in foot, ankle and sports medicine. Dr. Metzler is trained in the diagnosis and conservative treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries.
