Meet Mallory Holzer, PA
Where are you from?
I'm from St. Charles, MO.
What made you choose orthopedics as a specialty?
I did a rotation here at WashU during PA school, and it was my favorite rotation. I love that there are many sub-specialties within the specialty.
What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?
During my rotation here during PA school, I met so many awesome people who did great work. I knew this would be a great place to learn and grow.
What aspect of your practice do you find most interesting or rewarding?
As a new grad, I am still figuring this out, but I really enjoy helping people get back to doing the things they love to do.
Is there a patient who made a lasting impact on you?
While I was a student, I sat with a patient at their hospital follow-up appointment and answered a list of questions they had written about their new diagnosis. They later told my preceptor how much they appreciated someone taking the time to sit with them and ease their nerves. I often think of them – it means so much when we slow down and take the time to listen.
What is the best advice you ever received?
No matter what's going on in life, focus on the people you have around you that will always be there for the highs and lows.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Spend time with family and friends.
If you weren't in medicine, what would you like to be doing?
I love sports. I think it would be fun to be an interviewer or a broadcaster, or something like that. Specifically for the Cardinals or the Chiefs.
Anything else you'd like to share?
I love being outside. I enjoy going for runs, walks, hikes, and relaxing on the patio. I also love crafting and DIY activities. I've made candles, coasters, t-shirt quilts, banners, and many other things.
